A Room of the Moving Light
Sitting in a field of the Virginia Commonwealth University, A Room of the Moving Light is a commission from Painter Damien Ding to host his 10” x 69” thesis painting. The installation orchestrates a beam of natural light to move across the entire length of the painting from 8am to 12pm of the day. With maximum occupancy of two visitors at a time, the shed benefits from an A-Frame system to produce an intimate and immersive experience to scrutinize the painting with the light movement.
Expected to stay on site for 2 to 3 weeks, the design recognizes this ephermality with economical choices of materials and construction method. All parts are either available at the local Home Depot or designed to be easily prefabricated, transported, and assembled on site.
